Double A Rhythm Inc

Founded by Tufts Emeritus Professor David Locke and Directed by Brandeis Lecturer in Music Benjamin Paulding, Double A Rhythm Inc is dedicated to presenting world-class Ghanaian music and dance in the United States.

Featured Artist Spring 2026: Joseph Elike Agbeli

Elike Joseph Agbeli is an Ewe master drummer, dancer, singer, and music educator from Kopeyia in Ghana’s Volta Region. Raised in the renowned Agbeli drumming family, he has spent more than a decade teaching and performing traditional Ewe music and dance at the Dagbe Cultural Institute, the cultural center founded by his father, master drummer Godwin Agbeli, and later directed by his brother Emmanuel Agbeli. At Dagbe, Elike regularly instructs Ghanaian youth and international students in the core repertoires of Ewe music, including Agbadza, Atsiagbekor, and Adzogbo, continuing the family’s long tradition of transmitting oral musical knowledge. He holds a Bachelor of Education in Music Education from the University of Education, Winneba, and also teaches music at Kopeyia Bloomfield Basic School, where he directs the school’s cultural troupe and prepares students for regional performances. Through his teaching, performance, and cultural mentorship, Elike Agbeli is dedicated to preserving and sharing the rich musical heritage of the Anlo-Ewe people with audiences and students in Ghana and abroad.
